President Alan R. Miciak, Ph.D. today announced three leadership promotions that support the institution’s Inspired Futures strategy:

  • Carolyn Noll Sorg has been named Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing
  • Mike Scanlan ’06 has been named Vice President for University Advancement
  • Brian Polian ’97 has been promoted to Vice President for Athletics and National Engagement

“These leadership changes recognize the outstanding talents that Carolyn, Mike and Brian have brought to ۿ۴ý,” said Miciak. “Their leadership efforts are visible in our enrollment growth, campus life, and outstanding student outcomes.”

Noll Sorg joined ۿ۴ý’s administration in 2023 as Vice President for Enrollment. Her leadership has driven improved service quality and admission outcomes of our Enrollment Management efforts, including an eight percent increase in first-year deposits for the incoming first-year cohort and double the amount of transfer students choosing ۿ۴ý next academic year. A Cleveland native and 17-year veteran of higher education, Noll Sorg previously served in a leadership role with the College Board and as Director of Admission and a deputy chief enrollment officer at Ursuline College from 2013-17. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Baldwin Wallace University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in English, holds a Master of Arts in Higher & Postsecondary Education from Columbia University, and will soon earn a Master of Fine Arts in Experience Design from Miami University. As Vice President for Enrollment and Marketing, she will oversee admissions, student enrollment and financial services, enrollment operations, enrollment communications, and all University Marketing.

Mike Scanlan

Scanlan joined ۿ۴ý in 2019, most recently serving as Vice President for University Relations, where he oversaw marketing, communications, events, and community relations. Across the last five years, he has rebuilt ۿ۴ý’s marketing team and strategy with a focus on brand consistency, student recruitment, and cross-campus collaboration. Prior to ۿ۴ý, Scanlan spent 12 years in the sports and entertainment industry with the Buffalo Bills, Ladies Professional Golf Association, and IMG, where he oversaw communications for the agency’s golf, college, and esports divisions. A native of LeRoy, NY, he graduated from ۿ۴ý University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication.

Scanlan’s move into the Advancement leadership position comes as Ryan Daly ’99, ’12G departs ۿ۴ý to serve as President of the Foundation for Corewell Health East, the largest health care system in Michigan.

Brian Polian

Polian brings extensive administrative experience to his role as Vice President for Athletics and National Engagement, which will include a focus on expanding the institution’s national recruitment pool and increasing donor engagement. Prior to returning to ۿ۴ý in 2023, he spent 25 years in Division I collegiate athletics as a coach at LSU, University of Notre Dame, Stanford, and Texas A&M, among others. From 2013-17, he served as head football coach for the University of Nevada. A native of Buffalo, New York, Polian’s father, Bill, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015. The younger Polian graduated from ۿ۴ý in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in History following a four-year stint on the ۿ۴ý Football Team.
