Become a TRS Graduate Assistant!

The Department of Theology & Religious Studies seeks to fill two (2) full-time GA positions for the 2024-2025 academic year. TRS GAs work collaboratively with each other, faculty, and staff supporting the teaching, research, and service responsibilities of the department. Ìý

ÌýAssistantships are awarded competitively and offer a full-tuition award up to 15 credit hours per year plus a stipend. In return, Graduate Assistants in Theology & Religious Studies are expected to work on-campus 20 hours per week conducting research, teaching, or work related to the department.

The term of the assistantship is one year and is normally renewed for a second year upon satisfactory performance.

Application Deadline: February 15, 2014

  • Help faculty develop syllabi, design assignments, build Canvas sites, and other teaching-related activities, including holding regular office hours
  • Research books for course adoption; assist with book orders
  • Place items on reserve for courses
  • Attend class to facilitate teaching
  • Assist students with papers, exam preparation, and other tutoring-type activities
  • Proctor make-up quizzes/exams for undergraduates as necessary
  • Correct quizzes and exams; assist with grading of essays and grade entry
  • Occasional classroom teaching
  • Active research support (bibliographic searches, literature reviews, tracking down needed books/articles, inter-library loan orders, etc.)
  • Proofreading, abstracting, and reviewing books, articles, films, and other teaching or research resources
  • Assist with copy-editing and online publication of faculty research
  • Occasional photocopying or scanning of sensitive research/teaching materials
  • Help plan and host special professional events and conferences
  • Support faculty university service (e.g., assist with departmental committees)

RequiredÌýQualifications

  • Full-time, matriculated, degree-seeking graduate student in the Theology & Religious Studies M.A. program
  • Evidence of academic excellence in undergraduate work
  • Strong writing, editing, and speaking skills
  • Facility in MS Office and Google Suite applications
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and student assistants
  • Admission to a ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ graduate program
  • GA must maintain a term GPA of 3.0 while in the position and hold no active academic probations
  • Must maintain full time graduate student status

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in theology, religious studies, or cognate fields
  • Prior teaching and/or tutoring experience
  • Facility in graphic design software and familiarity with a range of social media platform

¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ offers a flexible two-year Master of Arts degree (30 hours) in Theology & Religious Studies with concentrations in theological education, pastoral ministry, and chaplaincy. Particular strengths include Catholic moral and systematic theology, scripture, American Religion, Islamic and Jewish studies. Central to the work of the department is the Tuohy Center for Interreligious Understanding.

2024-25 Graduate & Athletic Assistantship Application
