Emergency Same-Day Appointments

Because of the demand for our services, the Counseling Center staff is unable to see most students on the same day they contact us. However, we are aware that urgent concerns or emergencies requiring immediate attention can exist for students seeking our services.

If you believe your situation is a crisis that cannot wait for a regularly scheduled appointment, please contact our office in person or by phone at 216.397.4283. Our staff will conduct a brief assessment to determine if they are able to meet with you for an appointment that same day. Common reasons students may be scheduled for a same-day appointment include:

  • thoughts of suicide or harming one's self
  • thoughts of harming another person
  • survivor of a recent assault or abuse
  • knowledge of another person being abused or assaulted
  • concern about your own safety
  • hallucinations
  • witnessing or experiencing a traumatic event
  • the recent death of a loved one

If a student is an imminent risk to harm him/herself or someone else, that is an emergency that needs a higher level of care than we provide. Call 911 or ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ PD at 216-397-4283, or take them to the local emergency room.

If your emergency occurs after business hours and you reside on campus, contact Residence Life (e.g., your RA or Area Coordinator) or the ¿Û¿Û´«Ã½ Police Department (216-397-1234). If you reside off campus, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
